Some instructions deal specifically with raising our children, such as teaching them about God (see Proverbs 22:6 and Deuteronomy 6:7) and following God’s rules instead of our own emotions (see Ephesians 6:4). Other instructions are directed to our children, reminding them to respect and obey their parents (see Ephesians 6:1–3). The Bible also includes advice on how to treat everyone around us, which includes our children. We’re told to deal with them honestly, treat them the way we’d like to be treated ourselves, and help carry each other’s burdens.
And we cannot do it alone. These devotions are especially for those days when you need a bit of encouragement and a reminder of how our relationship with our children often mirrors our relationship with God. Three minutes from your busy day is all you’ll need to refresh yourself enough to keep going. • Read the day’s Bible verse and reflect on its meaning. • Read the devotion and think about its application for you. • Pray. Although these devotions aren’t meant as a tool for deep Bible study, they can be a touchstone to keep you grounded and focused on God.
God simply wants us to keep an attitude of open communication. That means we might speak with Him as we iron clothes, while waiting for a meeting to start, or as we sit in traffic. The point is to stay connected throughout the day, to leave your heart phone on. Just like you are always happy to hear from your children, God is always happy to hear from you. Lord, the Bible tells us to pray constantly, not just when we have big blocks of uninterrupted time. Thank You for loving the small, ongoing prayers just as much as something more formal.
